The South Tyneside Sexual Health service have been chosen to represent the North of England at the Governments National Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Conference promoting  ‘Remote access to contraception in response to COVID 19 restrictions. The dynamic adaptive approach of the South Tyneside Sexual Health team to meet the needs of patients during COVID  have been recognised nationally for best practice, service innovation, design, delivery & multi-agency working.

South Tyneside Sexual Health was chosen by the Government to represent the North East at the UK’s leading Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Conference promoting collaborate multiagency practice, service innovation, supporting and addressing sexual and reproductive healthcare inequalities in England.

South Tyneside Sexual Health delivered best practice to promote and capture how sexual and reproductive health services adapted during the COVID-19 response with a particular focus on changes put in place to meet the needs of less well served populations.

As the usual way of accessing services was not available during the pandemic, concerns were raised about the future pressures on the social care & NHS systems due to unwanted pregnancy. The digital schemes meant that the teams were able to provide their services during lockdown when the public were advised to stay and home and not travel.

Guest speakers included our very own Sexual Health team alongside:

  • Vice President for Speciality, The Faculty of Sexual and Reproduction Healthcare of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist
  • MP, Chair, APPG on Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • President, British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH)
  • Medical Director, Terrence Higgins Trust and Sexual Health and HIV Consultant, King’s College Hospital and National Advisor for LGBT Health, NHS England

Well done South Tyneside Sexual Health
